How much will this cost us?

Firstly, we attempt to be fair to everyone while still being able to offer a nationwide (UK & Ireland) service.

We operate a fee structure that includes a fixed fee and a per head fee.  At present this fee structure is the same as for the 2007/08 year.  For schools local to our base in N. Ireland who may consider the fixed fee component higher than expected in that it is  also the same for a school in, say, Kent the reason is as follows...  We cannot be sure where the unit servicing your visit will be geographicaly in the days before attending your school or college - it literally could be anywhere in the UK or Ireland and must make its way to you (and the cost of that re-location is not always known in advance).  In order to make things as straightforward as possible, and ensure our basic costs of making ourselves avalable to all, we keep the fixed fee component equal for all.

For the Academic Year 2010/11 we are again holding (and plan to continue holding) the fee levels at a similar level to that of 2008 :-

Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland

Fixed fee component  =  £275/Euro 295.00 (Single payment whether single day or multi-day (consecutive) visit with same school/college)

Per Capita component = £ 2.00/Euro 2.00 per pupil attending (staff and parents may attend day sessions free of charge)

England, Scotland & Wales

Fixed Fee Component  =  £295 (Single payment whether single day or multi-day (consecutive) visit with same school/college)

Per Capita Component = £ 2.00 per pupil attending (staff and parents may attend day sessions free of charge)

Note 1: The present exchange rate between the Pound and Euro and the rate of change is making keeping pricing information up to date a little tricky.  When an Irish school or college contacts us we will give you a definitive fee which we will then confirm in writing - however, the fee levels (in £) above will be typical.

For multiple day bookings the minimum fee chargable for the second day, and each subsequent day is £345/Euro 395.- The Fixed Fee Component is only chargable for the booking period whether one day or multiple days.

If you have specific requirements please call us to discuss what we may be able to do to help you.

The fees cover ALL our costs (accommodation, subsistance, travel etc..) - you will not find the fee changing at any point after it is agreed (though we may agree a minimum fee with you under certain circumstances - but before you confirm your booking).  So there will be no financial surprises.

Note 2:  We require, except in rare cases, that the booking process is complete at least 28-days prior to the date of visit.  This provides us sufficient time to coordinate travel, accommodation and to sequence dome movements between venues.  In exceptional cases we will endeavour to help you expedite the booking and confirmation process - but we may not be able to accomodate all requirements in the available time.  Until such time as we receive the completed booking form, the small deposit required, and we acknowledge receipt and approval no contract exists on any booking and our liability will be limited to the return of any deposit paid.

Note 3:  Organisers of festivals and similar events please note that for such events we operate on a quoted fixed fee basis as numbers attending will normally be unpredictable.  Please contact us with your requirements and we will do our best to provide as favorable a quotation as possible.  For festivals etc.. we normally seek completion of booking processes 42-days in advance of the event.  Weekend, bank, & public holiday events welcomed - nationwide. Exceptional case provisions of Note 2 above also prevail.

Support Materials & Advice

With each visit we will provide the school with support materials.  These usually take the form of a printed classroom guide, a DVD containing printable documents (for teachers & pupils), software, and data, something for the school liibrary, and whatever else we can dream up.

While we are with you your staff should feel free to ask whatever science questions they have as we are there to help.  Our staff are well informed in a broad range of sciences, are specialists in matters relating to space and space exploration, and are enthusiastic about their subject.

What size room do we need for the dome?

The domes are highly flexible and so have fitted into all venues we have dealt with to date - OK, to be fair about it, in some cases it was a bit tight to say the least.

The minimum (ideal) specifications for the room in which we are to operate the dome are as follow:

Floor space:   7m x 7m    (about 22ft x 22 ft)

Dome in primary school sports hall.

Central room height:  3.3m (about  11ft)

We also need at least a single 13amp square-pin power sockt from which to power our inflator fan.

What web browsers is best for this site?

We recommend that, if possible, you use the Firefox browser to view this website.

To date the only confirmed issue has been with MS Internet Explorer

Where do you visit - Geographically speaking?

UK Ireland Map of travelsSince Space Encounters was established in 2002 we have operated throughout the UK and Ireland - on occasion we have even ventured into mainland Europe.

Unlike many operators we will travel to any part of the UK and Ireland - the islands or inner London are subject to quotation due to the additional cost that are involved.   Other then that we have total coverage.

However, this is a business which is solely funded by the proceeds of visits to schools and colleges.  Therefore,  we cannot normally travel a few hundred miles between venues, day on day, due to the overheads.  So, it is common for us to work with a school to secure additional work in the area of the initial visit (say up to a 1-hour drive radius).  In this way we can keep our overheads, and thus prices, to a minimum and can often provide a significant reduction in fee to the initiating school that has helped us co-ordinate visits in the area.
